Sailing on a broad reach with a big gennaker set is one of the finest things in sailing. How to handle this large light-wind sail safely and correctly is what we show you in the gennaker training at IN2THEBLUE. With a crew of four to a maximum of six, you train the key manoeuvres under gennaker with our sailing instructor. That starts with proper preparation. How are the sheets led? Where are the blocks placed? How is the gennaker hoisted correctly? And above all: how do you drop it again safely? And last but not least. Incorrect hoisting or trimming of the gennaker can often have serious consequences. Our training gives you valuable experience on your own boat or on our training yacht, plus plenty of practical pro tips for more safety – and therefore more fun on the water when sailing with a gennaker.
In our hands-on skipper training for gennaker, you’ll learn step by step how to sail the asymmetric spinnaker safely and effectively – from hoisting and trimming to dousing.
In the course, you’ll learn step by step: the right preparation and the best techniques for hoisting & dousing the gennaker, as well as the correct trim & course selection, crew coordination during gybes, plus tips & tricks for controlled manoeuvring.
The course is aimed at beginners with basic knowledge as well as advanced sailors who want to expand their skills. You’ll learn directly on the water, supported by experienced sailing instructors.

In this practical training, you’ll learn how to use the asymmetric spinnaker (gennaker) safely and effectively. From hoisting and trimming to dousing, we’ll go through all the key steps together.
It’s aimed at beginners with basic knowledge as well as advanced sailors who want to expand their skills. Ideally, you already have the basics of sailing under control.
It’s best if you bring solid basic sailing skills so we can focus fully on working with the gennaker. That way, you’ll get the most out of the manoeuvre training on board.
The skipper training lasts 3 days. During this time, you’ll practise handling the gennaker again and again until the routines are second nature.
We cover preparation and techniques for hoisting and dousing, correct trim and course selection, crew coordination during gybes, as well as tips and tricks for controlled manoeuvring. The focus is clearly on practice.
You’ll train in a small crew of up to 6 people with German-speaking trainers who are covered by public liability insurance. Also included are access to the Skipper360.at learning platform, overnight stays on the yacht, and discounts on yacht charter.
Our home base is Marina Punat on the island of Krk in Croatia. From there, the sailing area offers ideal conditions for gennaker training.
In addition to the course price, there is a base fee for tourist tax, diesel and cleaning; current prices are listed on the course page. For booking, dates and any questions, we prefer to help you personally – just get in touch.
No, you don’t need a license to participate in the training. We pick you up exactly at your level.
Yes, our instructors are German-speaking and accompany you throughout the entire training.
Training times depend on your start day. For a Saturday start: Sat 2 PM – 5 PM, Sun 9 AM – 5 PM, Mon 9 AM – 5 PM, Tue 9 AM – 12 PM. For a Tuesday start: Tue 5 PM – 6:30 PM, Wed 9 AM – 5 PM, Thu 9 AM – 5 PM, Fri 9 AM – 5 PM.
You stay overnight on board the boat – the overnight stay is included in the training.
You can park directly in Marina Punat or at the marina’s gravel car park. Parking with a motorhome is allowed in the marina, but staying overnight in the motorhome is not. You can find out the current parking fees directly at the marina.
