By paying attention to conscious anchoring, acting responsibly when using products, or adhering to proven practices like recycling, we can help preserve the beauty and diversity of the marine environment. PROTECT SEAGRASS & CLIMATE
Enjoy the beauty of anchoring in a bay, but be sure to do so responsibly. Seagrass beds are vital for marine fauna and serve as protection against erosion. Seagrass is also an important nursery for many fish species.
By dropping your anchor only in designated bright sandy spots, you contribute to the preservation of these important ecosystems and promote climate protection. Seagrass binds carbon up to 35 times faster than tropical rainforests and absorbs 10% of the ocean’s carbon annually.
Marine Protection & Beach Clean Ups
Of course, we also get hands-on: Beach clean-ups are a matter of course, regularly carried out by Mare Mundi as part of their project weeks. During the last clean-up, for example, 2,500 cigarette butts were found in half an hour. Cigarette filters are made of plastic fibers, are extremely resistant, not biodegradable, and massively harm the underwater world.
In addition, tons of plastic waste are conspicuously found on our beaches. Microplastic particles endanger not only flora and fauna but also ourselves.
Conscious Use of Chemicals in Boat Care
Whether simple cleaning agents, polishing paste, or antifouling paint. A lot of chemicals are used in yacht maintenance. Antifouling coatings usually contain highly effective but toxic biocides. These biocides enter the environment and can harm ecosystems. It is therefore important to apply them in a way that minimizes impact on people and the environment. The same applies to all types of cleaning agents. We try to consciously use products that are as minimally harmful as possible to marine & coastal ecosystems.
