Frequently asked questions about offshore training

Offshore training is a 10-day sailing trip through the Adriatic, where you gain intensive offshore experience and collect valuable sea miles for your sailing certificates. Sailing takes place under the guidance of experienced, liability-insured trainers.

The training is aimed at sailors with basic sailing knowledge who want to expand their experience through real offshore trips. You should already have basic knowledge of seamanship such as knots, steering courses, and sail trim, and be able to handle safety equipment safely.

In addition to basic sailing knowledge, good basic physical fitness and mental resilience are important, as sailing takes place in a watch system by day and night. Teamwork, reliability, and a sense of responsibility are crucial, as everyone has an important role in a confined space over a long period. Prior knowledge of navigation and meteorology as well as experience in heavy winds are an advantage.

The training lasts 10 days. Sailing is done in a crew of at least 5 and at most 8 people, so that everyone is actively involved and can gain a lot of practical experience.

You will learn practical seamanship in offshore operations: safety briefing and equipment, logbook keeping, crew organization, weather routing, navigation, safety on board, and marine radio. The focus is on making you fit and independent for longer trips.

Included are the liability-insured trainer and overnight stay on the ship. In addition, there is a base fee for tourist tax, diesel, and cleaning, as well as the jointly funded boat kitty for catering. Not included are, among other things, harbor fees, fuel, final cleaning, and flights. You can find current prices on the course page or receive them upon request.

The starting point is usually Marina Punat on the island of Krk in Croatia. Depending on the trip, the start may also be in other harbors or locations โ€“ you can find the details in the respective training or course offer.

Feel free to get in touch if you are unsure about the requirements.
